>>statement As any artist I went through several strong influences, like Van Gogh, Impressionism, Fauvism, Mark Rothko, Lucian Freud, Jenny Saville, Damien Hirst and others, that have left visible traces in my work. For the last decade I devoted my work to exploring the beauty of the older male, the average next door type, attempting to break the stereotypical six pack beauty imposed by mass media. My subject matter is the male naked body but I never wanted it to be viewed as gay or homoerotic. Male nudity in general is considered a major taboo in most countries, while female naked figure seems to be a norm in the society dominated by straight culture. At one point somebody described my work as “non-glamorous”, meaning that I am not trying to portray a Greek god type from a magazine cover. Personally I find my models glorious just the way they are. In a way, that is what a true nude is about exposing a naked ordinary person, not masked by a gym built façade, telling its unique story by showing the marks, scars, wrinkles, and spare tire that are the land marks of its journey.
